Hayward Gallery – Andy Warhol: Other Voices, Other Rooms
The Hayward Gallery is currently presenting Andy Warhol: Other Voices, Other Rooms, an exhibition which is drawing record numbers of visitors. All aspects of Warhol's complex personality and life style, his provocative photography, films and television programmes are being exhibited.
Events to Accompany the Warhol Exhibition
Two major public events will expand upon various aspects of the Warhol philosophy. These ticketed events will take place in the Purcell Room, located within the Queen Elizabeth Hall.
Brigid Berlin and Vincent Fremont Discuss Andy Warhol - 24 November 2008
Brigid Berlin and Vincent Fremont were close friends of Andy Warhol. Brigid Berlin, also known as Brigid Polk, is an artist and former Warhol protégée. Vincent Fremont, film producer and director, worked for Warhol at the Factory (Warhol's studios) from the late 1960s. Both were frequently seen in his entourage and are well-qualified to discuss his ideas and his way of life as well as their own personal and professional relationships with Warhol. They will also talk about their own creative activities beyond the Factory.
Pecha Kucha Night: The Inner Circle, 6 Minutes 40 Seconds of Fame - 1 December 2008
The second event, also taking place in the Purcell Room, is a Pecha Kucha Night. In keeping with Warhol's philosophy artists, who don't necessarily have to be well-known, are invited to present their work in public.
The Pecha Kucha Night will be based on an original concept devised in 2003 by Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham of Klein-Dytham Architecture. 10-12 artists will be given a unique opportunity to exhibit their work. Each artist is permitted to present 20 images, and each image is shown for 20 seconds, thus giving the presenter precisely six minutes and 40 seconds of fame. This particular event will focus on fashion and product design, social networking, art collectives, alternative scenes, publishing, beauty, fame and glamour.
Artists wishing to present their work at the Pecha Kucha Night must submit their application to the organisers by 1 November 2008. The application should include a PowerPoint presentation of 20 slides and a short pitch up to a maximum of 200 words. Selected speakers will be notified mid-November.
Andy Warhol: Other Voices, Other Rooms runs until 18 January 2009 and details of all events connected to the exhibition can be obtained from the Southbank Centre.
